Woman, Child Hurt After Single-Car Overturn on Middle Road in Riverhead
A car struck a utility pole and overturned on Middle Road in Riverhead Tuesday, sending a woman and child to Peconic Bay Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

A vehicle struck a utility pole and overturned on Middle Road just west of Mill Road in Riverhead shortly after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, sending a woman and a child to Peconic Bay Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Riverhead Fire Department was called to the scene with a heavy rescue unit to assist in removing the occupants from the overturned vehicle. The Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps then transported both victims to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment.
The crash forced a temporary closure of a portion of Middle Road while the scene was cleared, with traffic diverted at Mill Road and at Deep Hole Road. PSEG was notified to repair the utility pole, which was cracked in the collision.

Police remained on scene investigating the cause of the crash. No information on the identities of the woman or child, the vehicle involved, or what led to the overturn had been released as of Tuesday morning.
