Monadnock Conservancy helps Sullivan farm secure future funding

Five Sigma Farm in Sullivan will keep 55 acres in farm and forest use, including a high glacial drumlin that offers strong grazing pasture. The farm, owned by Milton Trimitsis, raises more than 100 sheep and 300 laying hens, tying the conservation deal directly to Sullivan County’s local food supply.

The Monadnock Conservancy is working with the New Hampshire Farm Future Fund on the project, and the conservancy says it will hold the easement and monitor the land for generations to come. That puts the property on a long-term conservation track instead of leaving it exposed to future development pressure, while keeping productive acreage in agriculture.

The New Hampshire Farm Future Fund is designed to support farm viability planning alongside the conservation of important agricultural soils. Cheshire Conservation District said in May 2025 that since 2020 the fund had distributed more than $372,000 to protect over 1,813 acres across New Hampshire, a statewide reach that now includes Sullivan. Land For Good described the program in its seventh year as an integrated approach to farm viability, farmland conservation and farmland access.

The Monadnock Conservancy says it has protected more than 24,000 acres since 1989 across the Monadnock region, which covers nearly 800 square miles in Cheshire County and western Hillsborough County. Five Sigma Farm now sits inside that broader land-protection network, with the conservation easement set to preserve a working sheep and egg farm and keep that land in production for years to come.
