The fire first drew scrutiny in July 2025, when the Francis blaze was still under investigation. By Aug. 5, 2025, families in Francis were already talking about rebuilding after what was described as a second fire in two decades, a reminder that a single loss can linger well beyond the day the flames are extinguished.

For Frontier Woodworks, the financial hit was not just the destruction of a building. A millwork shop depends on specialized space, equipment and inventory, and losing the main building meant the business had to start over from the ground up before it could take on new work again. The more than $1 million damage estimate put the fire among the kind of disasters that can force a small maker to spend months replacing what a fire can erase in minutes.

The reopening mattered beyond one storefront in Francis. Summit County has long leaned on a network of small makers, builders and trades businesses that shape the county’s local economy, and a year-long rebuild is a reminder of how fragile that ecosystem can be when a production shop shuts down. Frontier Woodworks’ return signaled that the business had cleared the long recovery period and reached the point where it could resume serving customers again.

KSL said the business had spent a year rebuilding before the reopening, which was scheduled for that weekend. For Francis, the comeback marked the end of a costly interruption and the return of a shop that had been forced to pause production while it replaced a lost building and recovered from one of the most destructive fires the community has seen in years.
