Central Christian Tigers Sweep OPSU Aggies in Three-Game SAC Series

The Central Christian College Tigers completed a three-game sweep of the host Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies in Sooner Athletic Conference play Saturday at Carroll Gribble Field in Goodwell, Okla.

The visiting Tigers outscored the Aggies across all three games of the series, handing OPSU a loss at the on-campus home of Aggie baseball, which sits in the shadow of OPSU's iconic water tower on the far west side of the Goodwell campus. Known locally as "The Grib," the park features a newly installed batter's eye and scoreboard, along with an elevated press box that accommodates video streaming equipment and live statistics computers.

Both programs compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, primarily in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Saturday's series extended a pattern of competitive history between the two clubs at this venue. In 2025, Central Christian took the first two games of a similar SAC series in Goodwell before dropping the finale; a full sweep of the Aggies on their home field marks a stronger showing for the Tigers this time around.

OPSU entered the 2026 season with heightened expectations after adding 25 newcomers, addressing pitching and defense as points of emphasis, and bringing in what coach Mayeda called "a number of experienced student athletes" to anchor improvement. There was a sense of excitement in Goodwell for 2026 that hadn't been as present in previous years. Saturday's sweep was a setback for those aspirations, as Central Christian proved capable of winning on the road against a rebuilt Aggie roster.

For the Tigers, the sweep represents meaningful early-conference momentum. The SAC is a competitive NAIA circuit, and series results against conference opponents carry direct weight in the standings race. Winning all three games in a road environment, away from their home in McPherson, Kansas, underscores the depth Central Christian brought into this weekend.

OPSU will look to regroup as SAC play continues deeper into the spring schedule.
