Kyle Harmon did damage at the plate and on the bases, and that is the reason Guymon gets an immediate shot to do it again in Hooker. After the Tigers’ 8-6 win over the Bulldogs on Monday, the two Texas County rivals were set for a rematch at 5 p.m. Thursday at Hooker, with both clubs carrying fresh evidence of what worked and what did not.

Guymon’s latest win was its second over Hooker this season, following a 1-0 victory on April 9. The Tigers also snapped a three-game losing streak with Monday’s result, improving to 16-12, while Hooker slipped to 6-7. In a county where travel is short and familiarity is high, the quick turnaround gives both dugouts almost no time to sit on the loss or enjoy the win. It also forces rapid choices on pitching, defensive positioning and lineup construction before the same opponent sees them again.

Monday’s numbers showed why the rematch feels so volatile. Harmon finished 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI and one run, then added 2.1 innings on the mound without allowing an earned run on two hits. Angelo Carrasco matched the pace at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run and a double. Isaac Sandoval also went 2-for-3, stole two bases and scored once, giving Guymon a three-man core that kept pressure on Hooker throughout the game.

The Bulldogs had their own answers, but not enough of them. James Curtis went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI and one run. Justin Palacios was 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs, and Gunnar Martens reached base in three of four plate appearances, added three stolen bases and scored twice. Those baserunning totals show where Hooker can create trouble again, but they also underline the challenge of turning speed into enough runs when Guymon keeps finding answers at the plate.

The rematch carries added edge because the away team had won the last four meetings before Guymon finally protected home field Monday. That is the kind of streak that local fans notice in places like Texas County, where Guymon is the county seat and the Guymon census county division covers 886.6 square miles with an estimated 15,346 people. Hooker Public Schools also lists high school baseball in its 2025-26 athletics offerings, a reminder that this is part of the spring rhythm here, not a one-night exception. The next meeting will show whether Monday was a turning point or just another swing in a rivalry that has already changed hands once this week.
