A nine-run third inning turned a competitive road series finale into a rout, as Oklahoma City University's Stars battered Oklahoma Panhandle State 16-4 in Goodwell on Saturday to claim the weekend series two games to one.

OCU had already drawn first blood with three runs in the opening inning, but it was the third-inning outburst that put the game beyond reach. OPSU managed a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to make it a 12-2 game, but the Aggies never seriously threatened again. Oklahoma Panhandle State added two more in the fifth before OCU had already tacked on four additional runs in the fourth, finishing the afternoon at 16-4 across eight innings played.

Trent Baker, wearing number 13 for the Stars, earned the win on the mound, moving his season record to 2-2. Baker also led all players in strikeouts on the day according to OCU Athletics. OPSU's Adam Hinojosa absorbed the loss, dropping to 2-3 on the season.

Offensively, Clayton Allen paced OCU with a team-best hit total for the game, while Wyatt Pace led the Stars in both RBIs and putouts. The Stars finished the afternoon with 10 hits and one error. OPSU managed only five hits against the OCU pitching staff and committed two errors.

Other players featured in the game recap for OCU included Heath Brown, Cole Sedgwick, Jack Johnson, Will Ellis, Brittain Brewer, and Tanner McAdoo.

The Stars return to action Friday when they host Mid-America Christian University at 7 p.m.
