Tyrone Public Schools names Witt, Torres as top seniors in class of 2026
Brenner Witt and Ashley Torres topped Tyrone High School’s class of 2026, showing how grades, college credit and school involvement are shaping student success in Texas County.

Brenner Witt and Ashley Torres stood at the top of Tyrone High School’s class of 2026, and their honors point to more than two bright transcripts. The April 20 announcement from Tyrone Public Schools showed a small Texas County district sending students into college with advanced coursework, athletic experience and leadership already on their resumes.
Witt was named valedictorian with a 4.13 grade-point average after completing 12 college-level credits during high school. His schedule has stretched well beyond the classroom, with football, basketball, baseball and track, plus active roles in National Honor Society, student council and the Hooker Church of Christ youth group. He plans to attend Oklahoma Christian University and major in biochemistry.

Torres earned salutatorian honors with a 4.1 grade-point average and 21 hours of college credit. She has been active in softball, basketball and cheer, and served as cheer captain from her sophomore through senior years. Her athletic record includes all-conference recognition in softball as a sophomore and junior and in basketball as a junior and senior. She plans to attend Texas Tech University and major in nursing.

For Tyrone, the list of accomplishments says as much about the district’s culture as it does about two seniors. Both students earned college credit before graduation, a path that can ease the transition to higher education and lower the cost of a degree. Both also combined academics with visible roles in athletics and student leadership, giving younger students in the district a clear example of what high achievement can look like in a rural school system.
The honors also continue a pattern in Tyrone. In April 2024, the district named Brooklyn Stevens valedictorian and Kaitlyn Thompson salutatorian. Stevens had a 4.16 GPA and 21 college-level credits, while Thompson posted a 4.06 GPA and 29 hours of college credit. That earlier class also featured strong showings in athletics, National Honor Society, student council and future college plans, underscoring how often Tyrone’s top seniors arrive with both academic and extracurricular records already built.
Witt’s recognition had already drawn attention in September 2025, when he was named Tyrone’s Billy’s 10 Best Scholarship winner. That announcement described him as a senior tight end and defensive end who also participated in basketball, baseball, track, student council, National Honor Society and the Hooker Church of Christ youth group.
Tyrone Public Schools identifies itself as District I053 and lists its address at 6th & Beatrice in Tyrone, a reminder that in a small district like this, class honors are not just a ceremony detail. They are a public measure of how well the school is preparing students to leave home ready for college, careers and leadership.
