Eastern Oregon University names 617 students to winter dean’s list

Eastern Oregon University named 617 students to its 2026 winter-term dean’s list, a total that underscores the scale of academic achievement at the La Grande campus and across Union County.

To qualify, students had to earn at least a 3.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale while completing a minimum of 12 graded credits during the term. EOU posts the honorees term by term, making the list a regular public snapshot of student performance rather than a one-time roll call.

The winter total was slightly higher than the 606 students EOU named to its fall 2025 dean’s list, a gain of 11 students. On a campus that reported a fall 2024 headcount of 2,954, that means more than one in five students made the honor roll in winter term, a noteworthy share for a university that describes itself as Oregon’s Rural University.

That context matters in La Grande, where EOU’s main campus sits on I-84, 259 miles east of Portland and 177 miles west of Boise. Founded in 1929 as a teachers college, with its first campus on Courthouse Hill, the university has grown into a regional institution that links rural Oregon to a wider network of educational and community partnerships.

EOU said fall 2024 enrollment increased 2.7% and credit hours rose 4.4%, signs that student activity on campus has been moving in the same direction as the dean’s list numbers. The winter-term honor roll fits that pattern by showing a broad group of students not only enrolled, but maintaining strong academic standing while carrying a full load of graded coursework.

For Union County, the list carries more than ceremonial value. Students who make the dean’s list are often the same people who will stay in the region, enter local workplaces, or move on to graduate school and public service. In a county where Eastern Oregon University remains one of the strongest institutional anchors, 617 names on a single term’s honor roll amount to a clear measure of academic momentum and community pride.
