La Grande Cemetery Maintenance District Budget Committee to Meet April 7
La Grande Cemetery Maintenance District's Budget Committee meets April 7 at 8:30 a.m. to review the fiscal year 2026-2027 spending plan.

The La Grande Cemetery Maintenance District has scheduled a public Budget Committee meeting for April 7, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. at the cemetery office at 401 12th Street to take up the proposed budget for the fiscal year running July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.
The district, which operates and maintains municipal cemeteries serving La Grande and surrounding Union County residents, published the formal notice on March 10. According to the official notice, "the purpose of the meeting is to receive the budget message and to receive comment from the public on the budget."
Attendance is open to anyone with an interest in the district's finances. The notice states explicitly that "any person may appear at the meeting and discuss the proposed programs with the Budget Committee," making this one of the primary opportunities for La Grande residents to weigh in on how the cemetery is funded and managed before the new fiscal year begins.
Those who want to review the numbers before the meeting can do so starting April 1, when a copy of the budget document becomes available for inspection at the cemetery office. The office is open for that purpose between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Following the April 7 session, the Budget Committee will forward its recommendations to the full La Grande Cemetery Maintenance District board for final consideration.
The district has followed a consistent annual budget notice process for years. A comparable meeting was held May 13, 2025 at the same 12th Street location, and records from the La Grande Observer show the district held a budget committee meeting on April 12, 2011, using nearly identical public notice language, with inspection hours running the same 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. window.
