La Grande event aims to connect Eastern Oregon rural business owners
Free April 30 networking in La Grande could connect rural owners with funding leads, partnerships and regional support before growth stalls.

Rural business owners in Eastern Oregon will have a free chance to make new contacts, find support and compare notes on growth when the Oregon Frontier Innovation Hub and the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network host a networking event Thursday, April 30, at K Voelz Wines in La Grande.
The gathering, billed as “The Room for Rural Founders Ready to Grow,” runs from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and is aimed at entrepreneurs who may not have easy access to the same funding circles, advisory networks and partner meetings common in larger cities. For small companies in Union County, the value is practical: a single evening could lead to a referral, a customer lead, a financing conversation or a partnership that helps a business move from local survival to expansion.
The Oregon Frontier Innovation Hub, based at the Rural Engagement & Vitality Center in La Grande, says its work is focused on building networks, alliances and partnerships for traded-sector entrepreneurs innovating in Eastern Oregon. That matters in a region where business owners often have to travel farther and work harder to reach the people who can answer questions about growth, hiring, capital and market access.
The Oregon Entrepreneurs Network is bringing additional weight to the event. OEN describes itself as a statewide network that helps entrepreneurs grow and thrive, while also offering regional resources for business owners in Eastern Oregon, including Baker City, La Grande, Pendleton and Wallowa County. For founders in Union County, that means the event is not just a mixer. It is a direct line to a broader set of resources that can help with problems many rural businesses face, from identifying funding opportunities to finding the right introductions for partnerships and technical support.

The meeting also comes amid a steady push around entrepreneurship in La Grande. The REV Center has recently hosted entrepreneur idea nights at K Voelz Wines, building a local pipeline for people who want to test ideas, meet peers and stay plugged into the region’s growing innovation effort. In August, Business Oregon and the Oregon Innovation Council announced the intent to award $465,000 in Regional Innovation Hub grant funding to the Frontier Oregon Innovation Hub, underscoring state-level interest in the La Grande-based effort.
Union County officials and the Union County Chamber of Commerce have both made economic development a local priority, and the county government points residents to business support resources, including the Oregon Small Business Development Center and other regional organizations. For owners in La Grande, Elgin, Island City and beyond, Thursday’s event offers something that rural businesses rarely get often enough: a room full of people who can help turn an idea, or an existing business, into the next step forward.
