La Grande Urgent Care to close Aug. 14, family medicine expands

La Grande Urgent Care closed Aug. 14, and La Grande Family Medicine expanded into the exam rooms inside the same building at 2011 Fourth Street. Praxis Health told patients on Wednesday, June 17, that the family-medicine clinic was not closing, but would take over the space vacated when urgent care ended.

The change removed the urgent-care option at that address for minor injuries, sudden illnesses, sports-related problems and other walk-in needs. For families in La Grande, the timing mattered because it gave them a short window to adjust plans for children in sports, older adults managing chronic conditions and workers who had relied on quick care outside a normal appointment schedule.

The practical effect was a shift in how one of Union County’s most visible medical sites functioned. Same-day, walk-in care at 2011 Fourth Street ended with the urgent-care closure, while La Grande Family Medicine grew into the former urgent-care footprint. That left routine primary care in place at the building, but it also meant residents looking for immediate treatment had to rely on other local options, delay care until an appointment opened or go to the emergency department if the problem could not wait.

Praxis Health framed the move as an expansion of the family-medicine side rather than a full exit from La Grande. That distinction was important for patients who had used the clinic as a quick stop for nonemergency problems: the building stayed open as a medical site, but the service mix changed, and the urgent-care side that handled walk-in needs was no longer part of it after Aug. 14.
