Legacy Power Sports & RV reopened at 11201 Island Ave. in Island City on Jan. 8 after owner Robert Bates purchased a five-acre property from The Other Guys Auto Sales. The move gives the dealership roughly twice the space of its former leased location at 10401 S. Walton Road and immediately expands its display and service footprint on Island Avenue.

General Manager Shane Smith said the sale followed several months of discussions and was finalized in December. The new property includes multiple buildings and a main service shop of about 4,800 square feet. “There are multiple buildings on the property, including a detail shop we acquired with the sale,” Smith said. He added that longtime detail technician Mark Kokubun will remain on site. “Mark Kokubun, who had been doing details for The Other Guys, is staying with us and will continue to do details out in the back shop.”

Legacy already displays roughly 70 RVs on the lot spanning new and pre-owned motorhomes and towable units. Inventory includes models from Northwood Manufacturing and Keystone RV and covers new and pre-owned motorhomes, used Class A, B and C motorhomes, fifth wheels, travel trailers, campers and toy haulers. The powersports lineup has expanded to include Suzuki motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, electric side-by-sides, specialized mountain bikes, Landmaster all-electric side-by-sides and recently added CF Moto power sports vehicles. “We also have a recent acquisition (as dealers) of new CF Moto power sports vehicles on the lot,” Smith said.

Site upgrades are already visible. Smith noted, “We recently put a new four-foot chain-link fence across the front and installed a security gate.” Legacy plans further investments, including a covered outdoor showroom on the building’s side and an expanded main shop, to support larger inventory and increased service capacity.

The dealership’s growth follows several years of expansion; business has had rapid growth during the past five years. Local analysts and regional commentary have framed the move as a boost for area buyers, saying the doubled lot and higher visibility should increase walk-in traffic, speed inventory turnover and make pricing more competitive while keeping more service dollars in the local economy.

Legacy plans a spring grand opening, with date and details to be posted on the dealership’s website and social media. For Island City buyers, the relocation means more immediate choices on the lot, a larger service shop, and an on-site detail operation that preserves local jobs. Expect announcements about the grand opening and further site improvements in the coming weeks.
