Four candidates are competing for two seats on the Union County Board of Commissioners this May, and Pleasant Grove Grange No. 475 will hold a candidate forum on April 15, 2026, giving residents a free hour to hear from the people running.

The forum runs 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the grange hall, 67218 Hunter Road, in Summerville. Admission is free and open to the public.

Position 1 and Position 2 on the three-member board are both on the 2026 ballot, with Position 3 running in the intervening years. Cory Miller and Mark Simmons have both filed for Position 1, a seat currently held by Commissioner Paul Anderes, who is not seeking reelection. Simmons previously ran for Position 3 in 2024, narrowly losing to Jake Seavert. In Position 2, incumbent Matt Scarfo is seeking a third term, having first won the seat in 2018 and winning reelection in 2022.

The grange will hold its monthly community luncheon prior to the candidate forum, with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. The luncheon gives attendees an extra hour at the hall before candidates take questions.

The Pleasant Grove Grange Hall sits west of Summerville on Hunter Road and has served as a gathering place for the surrounding rural community for more than a century. It remains a popular place for local gatherings and the kind of setting where Union County voters have long shown up to hash out local issues face to face.

The May 2026 primary election will determine whether any candidate secures a majority outright, or whether the top two vote-getters in each race advance to November.
