Del Rio Man Arrested in Alpine on Child Solicitation, Grooming Charges

Cesar Resendez Jr., 36, of Del Rio, was taken into custody the evening of March 24 on North 5th Street in Alpine, facing two third-degree felony charges for online solicitation and grooming of a child.

The Brewster County Sheriff's Office confirmed that multiple agencies, including Alpine Police Officers, DPS Agents and Troopers, and DPS Air assets, converged on Resendez Jr. in his vehicle on North 5th Street. Notably, newly sworn-in K9 Milo was among the units that assisted in locating him.

The DPS Criminal Investigation Division led the investigation. CID Special Investigations is charged with proactively investigating threats to life, sex offenders, and related crimes, and this operation reflected that mandate in coordinating multiple law enforcement units across a wide geographic area.

Resendez Jr. was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Brewster County Jail for online solicitation of a minor, with additional charges pending.

Both charges, online solicitation of a child and grooming, carry third-degree felony classifications under Texas law. A third-degree felony in Texas is punishable by two to ten years in state prison and fines up to $10,000 per count.

The arrest drew attention to the nearly 160-mile distance between Del Rio and Alpine, suggesting the investigation tracked Resendez Jr. well beyond Val Verde County lines before agents moved in. The cross-jurisdictional nature of the case, spanning the border region from the Rio Grande to the Davis Mountains foothills, underscores how TxDPS CID operations routinely reach across county boundaries when pursuing child exploitation cases.
