Del Rio Police, Animal Services Remove Rattlesnake From Bedroom Late at Night
A rattlesnake found inside a Del Rio bedroom just before midnight sent occupants fleeing and brought both police and animal services to Irene Avenue.

Just before midnight on March 23, a rattlesnake inside a bedroom on the 100 block of Irene Avenue turned a late-night animal complaint into a swift two-agency response that ended without injury.
Del Rio Police Department officers arrived at approximately 11:54 p.m. and discovered the snake inside the residence. Officers immediately evacuated the occupants to ensure their safety and requested assistance from Del Rio Animal Services. Animal Services responded to the scene and removed the snake without incident, according to the Del Rio Police Department.
No injuries were reported.
The incident arrives precisely at the window the Del Rio Police Department warns residents to watch for. The department reminded residents that "snakes commonly emerge from hibernation during warmer months, particularly between March and April," and that rattlesnakes may enter homes while seeking shelter, food, or relief from extreme temperatures.

With high temperatures in the Del Rio area climbing toward the 90s this week, the timing fits the seasonal pattern police describe. Val Verde County's semi-arid landscape and proximity to brushland along the Rio Grande makes rattlesnake encounters a recurring spring reality for homeowners throughout the region.
The Del Rio Police Department advised residents to avoid approaching any snake and allow it to move away if possible. Keeping grass trimmed and clearing woodpiles, debris, and clutter from around a property reduces the hiding spots that make yards and homes attractive to snakes seeking cover.
Anyone who discovers a snake inside their home should not attempt to handle or trap it independently. The Del Rio Animal Services response on Irene Avenue illustrates exactly the kind of call the department is equipped to handle.
