Driver Arrested for DWI After Hitting Horse Trailer on East Bowie

Gabriel Chacon Ramos was placed under arrest after his Dodge pickup collided with a stationary horse trailer on the 800 block of East Bowie Street at approximately 2:00 a.m. on February 14, 2026, according to a Del Rio Police Department press release posted to the department’s Facebook page. Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Gabriel Chacon Ramos, the release states.

During the on-scene investigation, officers observed signs consistent with intoxication. The press release states, "During the investigation, Ramos exhibited signs of intoxication," and that officers "detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person and observed an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle within arm’s reach of the driver." The department added that "the container was cold to the touch and contained liquid."

Del Rio police administered standardized field sobriety testing at the scene; the release says, "Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered and indicated multiple clues of intoxication." Following those tests, the department reports that "Ramos was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated."

A warrant check conducted by officers uncovered an active Val Verde County arrest warrant for Ramos listed as "Accident Involving Damage to a Vehicle ≥ $200." The press release notes, "The warrant was confirmed with the issuing agency, and Ramos was additionally taken into custody on the outstanding warrant." After on-scene processing, Ramos "was transported to the Del Rio Police Department for processing and was later released to the custody of the GEO Correctional Facility pending the magistration process," the department wrote.

The Del Rio Police Department posted the press release to its official Facebook page under the headline "Man Arrested for DWI Following Crash; Outstanding Warrant Confirmed." The post showed 70 reactions, 10 comments and 7 shares at the time of capture. Public comments displayed beneath the post included a message from Angel Torres: "Damn! The department’s statement did not include details on injuries, whether animals were in the horse trailer, the extent of property damage in this specific crash, or any bond amounts and court dates. The press release contained ellipses at two points in the captured text and a previously circulated, truncated report noted only that "the driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated," a less specific phrasing than the department's formal arrest language.
