Signal restored at SL 79-US 90 E intersection in Val Verde County

The traffic signal at the SL 79-US 90 E intersection in Val Verde County is back in service after being damaged in a vehicle crash on June 9. TxDOT said the light was fully repaired and is now operational, restoring normal signalized traffic control at the state highway intersection in Del Rio.

Motorists were advised to resume normal travel once the repair was completed. The restoration matters for daily movement through one of the county’s key roadway connections, where a signal outage can quickly affect traffic flow at the intersection of State Loop 79 and U.S. 90 East.

Val Verde County falls within TxDOT’s Laredo District, the agency division responsible for planning, designing, building, operating and maintaining the state transportation system in Dimmit, Duval, Kinney, La Salle, Maverick, Val Verde, Webb and Zavala counties. Epigmenio “Epi” Gonzalez, P.E., has served as Laredo District engineer since November 2022 and oversees transportation operations across that eight-county area.

TxDOT uses annual average daily traffic, or AADT, as a standard measure in its traffic count system. The agency also publishes roadway-inventory and traffic-count data to track how roads are used and how they perform over time. Those tools help guide day-to-day operations across the district, including state highway corridors that serve Del Rio and the rest of Val Verde County.

The repair closed out a crash-related disruption and returned the intersection to normal operation. For drivers headed through the area, the immediate change is simple: the signal is working again, and traffic on SL 79 and U.S. 90 East can move under standard controls once more.
