Residents who were planning to handle property tax questions, vehicle paperwork or payments at 309 Mill Street on Monday will need to change course. Val Verde County said its Tax Office will be closed all day May 4 for staff training and will reopen Tuesday, May 5, at 8:00 a.m.

The county posted the notice on its news flash page and paired it with Spanish text that says the office is closed all day for training and reopens May 5 at 8:00 a.m. The alert matters because the Tax Office is one of the county counters many people use for routine business at the start of the week, especially after the weekend when errands pile up.

Val Verde County’s Tax Assessor-Collector’s Department handles property tax collection, including taxes for Comstock ISD, San Felipe Del Rio CISD, Val Verde County Farm to Market, Val Verde County Hospital District and the City of Del Rio. That means the closure affects more than simple payment windows. It can also slow down people trying to resolve account questions tied to local taxing entities.

The office is also a key point for vehicle services. According to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, county tax assessor-collector offices provide most title and registration services, including registration renewals, vehicle title transfers, address changes, non-fee license plates, disabled parking placards, copies of registration receipts and temporary registration. Anyone needing one of those transactions will have to wait until Tuesday or use another channel if available.

Val Verde County lists Elodia Garcia as tax assessor-collector at the department’s office in Del Rio. The directory also names Cecilia Martinez as property tax chief deputy and Maria Rosales as auto chief deputy. Those names matter for residents who have developed direct contact with county staff and may otherwise expect normal walk-in service on Monday.

The county also says an online ePayment Center is available for some transactions, which may help offset the inconvenience for people who cannot make a second trip to the office. For everyone else, the practical effect is simple: no walk-in Tax Office service will be available on May 4, and routine county business tied to taxes or motor vehicles will have to wait until the office opens again Tuesday morning.
