Record 349 Runners Tackle Los Lunas King of the Hill Trail Run

The 11th annual King of the Hill trail run set a new participation record on Saturday, March 8, with 349 registered runners taking on courses ranging from a half-marathon to a family 5K in Los Lunas.

The Village of Los Lunas Parks and Recreation Department hosted the event, which has grown steadily since its launch more than a decade ago. This year's field of 349 runners marked the highest registration total in the race's history, a milestone that reflects both the event's reputation on the regional trail running circuit and the continued appetite for outdoor recreation in Valencia County.

The King of the Hill format has long tested participants with the terrain around Los Lunas, and offering distances from the half-marathon down to a family-friendly 5K allows the event to draw competitive runners alongside first-timers and younger participants making their debut on the trails.

The Parks and Recreation Department's role as organizer positions the annual race as one of the signature community events on the Los Lunas calendar, blending competitive athletics with broader civic engagement around the village's parks and open spaces.
