Vinton County kindergarten registration opens, packet pickup set for May 13-15
Vinton County families with incoming kindergartners must register online now and pick up packets May 13-15, or call the district office for help.

Families with incoming kindergarteners in Vinton County need to finish online registration now and, if they want a packet in hand, stop by one of three elementary schools May 13 through May 15.
Vinton County Local Schools opened kindergarten registration through FinalForms on May 1 for the 2026-2027 school year. Packet pickup is set for 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 13 at Central Elementary in McArthur, May 14 at South Elementary, and May 15 at West Elementary. No appointment is needed, and the district office help line at 740-596-5218 is available for families that need assistance.

Children must be 5 years old by August 19, 2026, to enroll in kindergarten in Vinton County for the coming school year. The district also said children already enrolled in the Vinton County Local School District preschool program do not need to register again for kindergarten, a detail that matters for families moving from preschool into the elementary pipeline.
The welcome packet includes kindergarten standards, a school calendar, a special book, a pencil box and a yard sign. That makes the pickup more than a paperwork stop for parents trying to map out the next school year, especially those new to the district or shifting a child from daycare or preschool into regular school routines.
The kindergarten reminder comes as Ohio’s age rule changed for the 2026-2027 school year. House Bill 114, signed into law by Gov. Mike DeWine on Dec. 19, 2025 and effective March 20, 2026, requires districts to admit children who are 5 years old by the first day of instruction for the school year of admittance. That statewide shift has replaced the old district-by-district cutoff system and makes it especially important for families comparing kindergarten rules across county lines.
Vinton County Local Schools is also holding preschool registration May 13 through May 15 at the same three elementary schools. Parents registering a preschooler are asked to bring birth certificates, immunization records, proof of residency, income verification and legal paperwork if applicable, giving local families a single week to line up early-childhood enrollment before the school year planning cycle moves forward.
