Vinton County’s trip to Meigs became a hard reset test, as an 11-1 loss on Wednesday ended a three-game road winning streak and came in what MaxPreps described as the Vikings’ biggest defeat since May 5, 2025.

Meigs controlled the game from the circle and at the plate. Brooklyn Roush struck out 12 in five innings, allowed one earned run on three hits and did not issue a walk. She also went 1-for-3 with two runs and a triple, giving Meigs production in both roles and keeping Vinton County under pressure throughout the night.

Natalie Goode added the kind of contact performance that pushed the game out of reach, finishing 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs and a double. MaxPreps noted that her two runs were a new career high. Bella Roush added another extra-base threat, going 1-for-2 with a triple, two RBI and a run as Meigs kept stacking traffic on the bases and finished with a .519 on-base percentage.

The result lifted Meigs to 12-1, extended its home winning streak to 10 games and gave the Marauders the latest word in the teams’ head-to-head series. Meigs also entered the matchup unbeaten in conference play at 4-0, a record that matched the way it handled earlier tests against Rock Hill, a 12-0 road win, and Wellston, a 4-1 comeback victory.

For Vinton County, the loss interrupted a stretch that had shown real resilience. The Vikings had beaten River Valley 18-6 on April 6, Nelsonville-York 7-5 on April 8, Huntington 3-2 on April 9 and Athens 2-1 on April 10, a four-game run that pointed to a team finding ways to win tight games and also break open a lineup. Against Meigs, that rhythm disappeared quickly, and the margin left little doubt about where the next adjustment had to come.

With rival Wellston next on the schedule, Vinton County had little time to dwell on the setback. The scoreboard in Pomeroy showed a team that can win in different ways, and a Vinton County group that still has to prove it can match that level against the strongest opponents.
