Wellston rallies past Vinton County, 3-1 in conference play

Wellston needed only one inning to take control Monday at Veterans Field, and that fourth frame decided a 3-1 Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division win over Vinton County. The Golden Rockets scored all three of their runs in the fourth, turning a tight game into a conference result that lifted Wellston to 11-8 overall and 10-2 in league play.

For Vinton County, the loss dropped the Vikings to 8-8 overall and 7-5 in the TVC-Ohio, a record that still keeps them in the middle of the pack but leaves less room for error over the final stretch. In a league where a game or two can change seeding, confidence and the path into the postseason, a one-run defeat carries real weight.

The decisive moment came in the fourth, when Wellston finally broke through and Vinton County could not keep the inning from becoming a three-run swing. Vinton County beat Wellston 10-0 on April 17, but Monday’s game at Wellston, Ohio, belonged to the Golden Rockets this time. That back-and-forth fits a rivalry that has become a familiar part of the annual schedule, with the Vinton County Local School District listing the teams for two meetings in 2025 as well. For Wellston, the win reinforced its hold near the top of the TVC-Ohio standings.
