Cary Rebrands Inclusive Recreation Program ACCESS, Expands Services
On December 2, 2025 the Town of Cary rebranded its Specialized Recreation and Inclusion Services as ACCESS, Accessible Community Connections and Engagement Support Services. The move centralizes inclusive recreation for residents with disabilities, offering arts, fitness, culinary classes and social gatherings, and aims to remove participation barriers while promoting belonging across the community.

The Town of Cary announced on December 2 that it has rebranded its Specialized Recreation and Inclusion Services as ACCESS, which stands for Accessible Community Connections and Engagement Support Services. The new identity is intended to strengthen and promote inclusive recreation across Cary, while maintaining longstanding features such as the Kids Together Playground as a central inclusive play space.
ACCESS will offer a broad range of specialized and inclusive programs for people with disabilities, spanning arts, fitness, culinary classes, social gatherings and other activities designed to build life and social skills. The program is organized to remove barriers to participation and to foster belonging, with sign ups and program details available on the Town of Cary ACCESS information page.
For Wake County families and caregivers, the rebranding is more than a name change. Inclusive recreational opportunities provide routine places for social connection, skill development and physical activity, all of which contribute to mental health and overall well being. Community based programs like ACCESS can reduce social isolation, offer caregiver respite and create pathways to greater independence for participants. Those benefits have public health implications because prevention and early intervention through social and recreational supports can reduce pressure on clinical services and improve quality of life.
The shift also reflects a municipal commitment to equity in parks and recreation access. By packaging specialized and inclusive programming under one banner, the town aims to make navigation simpler for residents seeking services, and to signal that people with disabilities are a priority population for local government planning. Keeping the Kids Together Playground as a focal point preserves a tangible community asset that families rely on for safe inclusive play.
Residents looking for program schedules, registration information and eligibility details can find them on the Town of Cary ACCESS information page. As Cary moves forward with ACCESS, the change offers a practical example of how local policy and programming can promote social inclusion and health equity across the county.
