A man was found shot inside a red sedan that was stopped and disabled in the middle of Timber Drive at Vandora Springs Road in Garner, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Officers discovered the driver after responding to a report of a disabled vehicle around 7:15 p.m. Monday; some reports say officers arrived just after 7:16 p.m.
Police and forensic teams worked at the scene into the night. "Timber Drive has reopened after a man was found shot Monday evening in a car in the middle of the road," WRAL reported. Forensic crews remained at the scene past 11 p.m., investigators canvassed nearby businesses for video, and on-scene observers reported a red car with shattered windows and a pair of shoes beside the vehicle.
Details about the incident remain limited. WRAL said officers found the driver with a gunshot wound and that "police said only one person was in the car when they found the driver." ABC11 reported that "apparently, after the red sedan was shot into, the car behind it rear-ended it. That driver then called 911," but that sequence has not been independently confirmed by police. A witness walking a dog told ABC11 he "heard five shots in a short amount of time." ABC11 noted there was "no word on a suspect or a motive."
Garner Police Department officials are appealing to the public for assistance. "Capt. David Casteline requested assistance from the community, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Garner Police Department at (919) 772-8810," ABC11 reported. WRAL also urged residents to check home surveillance or doorbell camera footage and provided the same tip line.

Beyond the immediate facts, the shooting has public health and community-safety implications for Garner and Wake County. Violent incidents concentrated on neighborhood streets can increase fear, disrupt evening routines, and create long-term stress for people who live or work nearby. The presence of forensic crews and the call for camera footage underline how crucial community surveillance and timely witness reports are to investigations, while the lack of an identified suspect or motive points to enduring gaps in accountability and prevention.
For now, investigators are gathering evidence and canvassing for recordings that could clarify the timeline and identify who fired the shots. Police have said they will provide more information when available. Residents with video or information can contact the Garner Police Department at 919-772-8810. The next updates will matter for public safety, healing for those affected, and community conversations about violence prevention and resources in Garner.
