Pedestrian Struck by Car on New Bern Avenue, Road Briefly Closed
A man hit by a car near Jack's Seafood Restaurant on New Bern Avenue Saturday was hospitalized; he is expected to recover.

A man was struck by a car at the intersection of New Bern Avenue and Raleigh Boulevard Saturday evening, sending him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and briefly shutting down one of east Raleigh's busiest corridors, authorities said.
The crash happened around 6:56 p.m. in front of Jack's Seafood Restaurant. Police closed lanes on New Bern Avenue while they investigated, though all lanes had reopened by Sunday afternoon. The Raleigh Police Department has not released the victim's name.
Despite the initial severity, the victim is expected to recover, according to officials. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene after the crash. As of Sunday, no arrests had been announced. A passenger in the car told WRAL News the crash was caused by sun glare in the driver's eyes, though police had not confirmed that account.
New Bern Avenue carries heavy traffic through east Raleigh as U.S. Business Route 64, connecting downtown to the city's eastern neighborhoods. Saturday's crash is the latest in a series of pedestrian collisions along the corridor, which has been the site of multiple serious and fatal strikes in recent years.
