Shooting near north Raleigh Food Lion leaves victim, police investigating crash
Gunfire broke out beside a north Raleigh Food Lion Tuesday morning, sending one victim to a hospital and leaving police chasing suspects who later crashed nearby.

Gunfire erupted beside a busy north Raleigh Food Lion Tuesday morning, turning the shopping center at 5633 Creedmoor Road into a police scene and sending shoppers and drivers away from the area. Raleigh police said officers were called around 10:30 a.m. on April 14 after reports of a shooting and crash involving two cars near Creedmoor Road and West Millbrook Road.
Witnesses told police that two vehicles pulled into the Food Lion parking lot, got into a verbal argument and then began shooting at each other. One person later walked into a local hospital with a gunshot wound. After the shooting, one person ran away on foot, while another drove off in a truck and later crashed at the intersection of Millbrook Road and Winthrop Road before jumping out and fleeing, according to police.
Investigators found multiple shell casings and a discarded firearm at the scene, evidence that underscored how quickly the violence spilled across a commercial strip that usually sees grocery traffic, commuters and nearby workers instead of a shooting in daylight. The parking lot had to be cleared and secured as officers worked the scene around the Food Lion and nearby businesses.
Raleigh Police Chief Rico Boyce said the incident may have stemmed from an argument. Police said the suspects were still at large as the investigation continued, and officers asked for help from anyone who saw the vehicles, the people involved or the crash near Millbrook Road and Winthrop Road. Boyce became Raleigh’s police chief on March 1, 2025, after Estella Patterson retired, and the department’s response showed how seriously investigators were treating the case.
