Zebulon man arrested after exposing himself to juvenile on trail

Dominique Floyd, 27, was arrested Thursday after investigators say he exposed himself to a juvenile on a neighborhood walking trail in Zebulon and then solicited the child for sex. The incident is alleged to have happened May 21 on the trail in the Pearces Landing neighborhood, a residential area where families use the paths for walking and outdoor activity.

The case carries serious criminal implications under North Carolina law. Exposure in the presence of a minor for the purpose of arousing or gratifying sexual desire is a Class H felony when the person is at least 18. Soliciting a minor for prostitution is a Class G felony. The allegations against Floyd include both offenses, placing the case among the more serious sex-related charges that can be filed in state court.

Warrants also say Floyd had a prior armed robbery conviction in Georgia in 2016 and was found in possession of a stolen handgun. North Carolina law bars convicted felons from possessing firearms, and Floyd now faces additional charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, possessing a stolen firearm and simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance. He was given a $15,000 secured bond on the indecent exposure case, but he was denied bond on the firearm charges.

Floyd was scheduled to make his first appearance in Wake County court Friday afternoon. Zebulon police said they had no further information to release, but asked anyone who may have witnessed criminal activity connected to the case to contact the department. For parents and trail users, the allegation is a reminder to report suspicious behavior quickly, especially in spaces where children walk, bike and play. Early reporting can help investigators identify patterns, recover evidence and determine whether other witnesses saw the same person or activity.

The setting has stirred concern because the town has long framed walkability as part of its growth strategy. Zebulon’s 2030 planning goals include increasing connectedness and walkability, and town materials say it maintains six public parks, a greenway and a downtown pocket park with walking trails and walking loops. Pearces Landing listings also describe the neighborhood as having a community walking trail, underscoring why allegations on that path resonated so strongly with nearby residents.
