Kennedy Skate Park will close for full rebuild, reopening late spring 2026
City officials announced on November 24, 2025 that Kennedy Skate Park will temporarily close beginning December 8 for demolition and reconstruction, with a planned reopening in late spring 2026. The work responds to persistent surface cracking, will be completed at no cost to the city, and aims to deliver a more durable, state of the art facility for Yuma riders and families.

On November 24, 2025 the City of Yuma and the project contractor announced that Kennedy Skate Park will close to the public on December 8 so crews can demolish and fully rebuild the facility. The move follows the appearance of surface cracking throughout the park shortly after it opened in January, a problem that has continued despite regular use. Officials say the park remains safe for use while crews prepare to begin work, but a full replacement was determined to be the best course to ensure long term durability and quality.
The rebuild will be carried out at no cost to the city, and will preserve the park's modern concrete design, flow friendly terrain for all skill levels, shaded spectator areas, and the pump track that proved popular with local riders. Those features were shaped by local input during the original design process, and the city said that community preferences will be reflected in the replacement facility.
“While we know many will miss the park during reconstruction, we’re very pleased with the contractor’s commitment to make things right and provide Yuma with the very best skate park possible for our community,” said Eric Urfer, Director of Parks and Recreation.
Willmeng Construction will lead the rebuild effort alongside American Ramp Company, and the contractor has pledged a focused effort to complete a higher quality surface and structures. The city said demolition and reconstruction will aim to deliver a state of the art park that withstands heavy seasonal use and the local climate.
“At Willmeng, we’re passionate about building spaces that bring people together and inspire active lifestyles. We know how much Kennedy Skate Park means to Yuma’s skaters, riders, and families, and we’re truly sorry for the inconvenience this closure may cause,” said Kenny Shepherd, Project Executive for Willmeng Construction. “We’re excited to work alongside the City and American Ramp Company to deliver a renewed, top-quality skate park that everyone can be proud of. Thank you for your patience and support as we make Kennedy Skate Park better than ever!”
Local riders, families and spectators should expect the park to be unavailable through the winter and into spring while crews work toward a late spring 2026 reopening. The city will post project updates and behind the scenes progress on its social media channels.
