The City of Yuma released its weekly road report on Jan. 8 detailing active and upcoming public works and private utility projects that will affect traffic patterns across the city. Key municipal projects include landscaping work on 32nd Street between Avenue 3E and Pacific Avenue with single lane closures in both directions, and technical borings for pavement and soil sampling on 32nd Street from Catalina Drive to Avenue 8 1/2 E that will impose intermittent lane restrictions through early February. Reconstruction at the intersection of 28th Street and Avenue C has prompted a full closure and ongoing lane restrictions on 28th Street through January 2026 between Avenue C and 45th Avenue and between Avenue C and 33rd Drive.

Routine city maintenance scheduled for the week of Jan. 11–17 includes asphalt patching in the Rancho Verde and Las Casitas 1 subdivisions, concrete sidewalk repairs in Tamarack Subdivision Phases 4 and 6, crack sealing on 21st Drive from 24th Street to 32nd Street and in Livingston Ranch Subdivision Phase 2, road grading on Avenue 4 1/2 E and 40th Street, and citywide striping from Avenue 10E to Avenue 6E between 24th Street and 48th Street. These activities are intended to address pavement preservation and pedestrian infrastructure but will require temporary restrictions.

Private contractors and utilities are undertaking concurrent projects. Sewer work on Avenue B between 8th Street and 12th Street will begin Jan. 12 with lane restrictions and is expected to run through late February. Water and fire line installations at the Pecan Grove Housing Complex on 24th Avenue will start Jan. 12 and are anticipated to finish by late January. CenturyLink began manhole and utility work at 4th Avenue and 32nd Street on Jan. 6, with road closures and lane restrictions expected through late March. A sewer main project on 10th Avenue between 12th and 13th streets began Jan. 5 and was expected to be completed in early January; waterline replacement on Arizona Avenue between 17th and 18th streets began Jan. 5 with mid-January completion expected.

Yuma County’s Smucker Park Basin project will affect Avenue A between Parkview Loop and 28th Street, closing the west-side sidewalk and introducing truck traffic, phased lane restrictions, and a closure at Westridge. The report also notes ongoing fiber optic installations, Southwest Gas and APS maintenance, and routine sewer and utility work throughout the city.

The concentration of municipal, county, contractor, and utility work across multiple corridors risks compounding traffic impacts during peak hours. Drivers should plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time; residents should monitor posted traffic controls and signage. The overlap of projects underscores the need for tight coordination between agencies and contractors to limit disruptions to school transportation, business deliveries, and emergency access while projects remain underway.
