Pedestrian Struck on S. Avenue B Suffers Serious Injuries, YCSO Investigates
A man in dark clothing was struck by a southbound vehicle on S. Avenue B at 2:20 a.m. Monday and rushed to Onvida Health with serious injuries.

A male pedestrian wearing dark clothing was struck by a southbound vehicle at approximately 2:20 a.m. Monday at S. Avenue B and W. County 16 3/8 Street, leaving him on the roadway with serious injuries, the Yuma County Sheriff's Office confirmed.
Deputies responding to the collision found the man on the road with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. According to YCSO, he had been walking northbound on Avenue B when a vehicle traveling southbound hit him. Rural Metro Fire transported him to Onvida Health due to the severity of his injuries.
YCSO stated that the vehicle involved "made contact with law enforcement regarding the incident," though the release did not specify whether the driver returned to the scene or contacted deputies by other means. No arrests or citations were mentioned in the release.
Investigators have ruled out speed and alcohol as contributing factors. The case, logged under DR# 2026-17217, remains active as of Monday afternoon.

Monday's collision on S. Avenue B is not the corridor's first serious pedestrian incident. On December 6, 2025, 21-year-old Mariella Acosta of Yuma was killed in a hit-and-run near South Avenue B and West County 14th Street, roughly a mile south of Monday's crash site. That investigation remains ongoing.
