Yuma Appoints Native John Louser as New Fire Chief

The City of Yuma formally named John Louser as Fire Chief after a national search that produced roughly 30 applicants. Louser, a Yuma native with more than 25 years in the fire service and more than 22 years with the Yuma Fire Department, had been serving as Acting Fire Chief since September. He succeeds Dusty Fields, who retired in September after more than 30 years of service.

City officials said the selection followed a competitive process in which finalists participated in panel interviews and a public meet and greet. The appointment concluded a search that combined external recruitment with an evaluation of internal experience and leadership progression. Louser advanced through roles from firefighter and paramedic to deputy chief, a record the city cited as relevant to his new responsibilities.
