Ricardo Meza spent nearly a year known to Yuma police only by an alias before investigators connected "Ricky" to the 39-year-old man now sitting in the Yuma County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond.

The Yuma Police Department received information about a delayed sexual assault involving a woman over the age of 60 that had occurred near 17th Street and Maple Avenue in May 2025. The victim identified her alleged attacker only by the name "Ricky," giving investigators little to go on at the outset of what would become an almost year-long inquiry.

Through that investigation, YPD ultimately identified "Ricky" as Ricardo Meza. Officers arrested him on February 19, 2026. A week later, on February 26, a grand jury returned an indictment against him, though the specific charges listed in that indictment were not publicly detailed in YPD's announcement.

Meza remained in custody at the Yuma County Detention Center as of this week, held on the $250,000 bond set following his arrest.

Anyone with information about the case can contact the Yuma Police Department at (928) 373-4700. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call 78-CRIME at (928) 782-7463.
