17-Year-Old Arrested in Bayview for November Outer Richmond Shooting That Injured Five
A 17-year-old was arrested Feb. 8 in Bayview and booked on suspicion of involvement in the Nov. 8 Outer Richmond shooting near Ocean Beach that wounded five people.

A 17-year-old boy taken into custody Feb. 8 in the Bayview District was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center on multiple firearm-related suspicions tied to a Nov. 8 shooting near Ocean Beach that left five people injured, San Francisco police announced Feb. 12. The suspect’s name has not been released because he is a juvenile.
The shooting occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on Nov. 8 in the Outer Richmond area near the intersection of Great Highway and Fulton Street, close to a Safeway store, where officers found multiple victims and rendered aid before paramedics transported all five to hospitals. Police reports describe one adult man suffering life-threatening, or critically injured, wounds and four juveniles sustaining less serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators with the San Francisco Police Department’s Violence Reduction Team developed probable cause that led to the arrest in the area of Third Street and Galvez Avenue in Bayview, SFPD said. The department characterized the episode as an isolated incident and announced the arrest publicly on Feb. 12. Capt. Kevin Lee, San Francisco Police Department, said, “A fight broke out shortly before 9 p.m., which resulted in the shooting.”
Court and booking paperwork list a range of suspicions: ABC7 reports the teen was booked on suspicion of assault with a firearm, being a minor in possession of a firearm, other firearm offenses, and possession of stolen property. Reporting tied to the San Francisco Chronicle and republished outlets adds that the teen was booked on suspicion of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and multiple firearm-related offenses, including carrying a concealed and loaded firearm in public. Media accounts vary in wording about the weapon; police have so far described the charges as suspicions while the investigation continues.
The arrest and the circumstances of the Nov. 8 fight revive ongoing concerns about youth-involved gun violence in San Francisco. National Today’s commentary framed the case within broader worries about gun violence involving minors and public-safety challenges in neighborhoods such as the Outer Richmond, noting the need for efforts that address root causes of youth violence and strengthen community-police relations.
The case remains under investigation. SFPD asks anyone with information to call the tip line at (415) 575-4444 or to send a text to TIP411 beginning the message with “SFPD.”
