2-year-old dies after being struck by vehicle in East Harris County
KPRC reported a toddler was pronounced dead after being struck by a vehicle in east Harris County; deputies and Channelview EMS responded and the driver remained at the scene.

KPRC Click2Houston published an update saying, "Update: the toddler was pronounced deceased at the hospital" after a child believed to be about 2 years old was struck by a vehicle in the eastern part of Harris County, authorities said. Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office and Channelview EMS responded to the scene and Channelview EMS transported the child to a hospital, according to published accounts.
Accounts differ on the crash location. Fox26 reported "Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office responded to a crash in the 15400 block of North Brentwood Drive, near Woodforest Boulevard and Dell Dale Street," while a separate account says the incident occurred "at a complex at 14340 Wallisville Road in the eastern part of Harris County." An earlier line in one report also described the site as "Brentwood Drive near Dell Dale."
Reports also conflict on timing. One report includes the line, "On Feb. 22, 2026 Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez and local responders reported that a 2‑year‑old child was struck by a vehicle on Brentwood Drive near Dell Dale in east Harris County," while another outlet published its coverage under a November timestamp. Those differing dates and the different street addresses have not yet been reconciled with official incident records.
Response and patient condition are described similarly across accounts until the outcome. Fox26 said "The toddler was transported by Channelview EMS to a hospital" and noted, "The child’s condition is not immediately known." KPRC's copy states the child was "taken to a hospital in critical condition" and later adds that the 2‑year‑old "was later pronounced dead," presenting a progression from transport to pronouncement.
All reports say the driver remained at the scene. Fox26 quoted officials that "The driver remained at the scene," and KPRC repeated that "The driver of the striking vehicle stayed at the scene, according to authorities." The Harris County Sheriff's Office is identified across accounts as the source of incident information; one report includes the line, "The Source: Information in this article was provided by the Harris County Sheriff's Office."
Investigative details remain limited in the available accounts. Fox26's copy includes, "No additional details were immediately released as the investigation continues." Key items that require verification with HCSO and Channelview EMS are the exact incident address, the official incident date and time, the hospital that received the child, confirmation of the child's age and identity, and whether any citations or charges were filed against the driver.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office and Channelview EMS are the primary agencies named in current reports; the office has been cited as the source of the initial information and investigators have described the matter as an active investigation.
