7-Month-Old Girl Fatally Shot in Stroller on Brooklyn Street in Suspected Gang Shooting
A 7-month-old girl was shot in the head while her mother pushed her stroller through Brooklyn, killed in what police call a suspected gang shooting.

A 7-month-old baby girl was shot in the head and killed while her mother pushed her stroller along Moore Street in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in what NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch described as a suspected gang-related shooting.
The attack unfolded just after 1:15 p.m. near 108 Moore St., at the corner of Moore and Humboldt streets, within the confines of the NYPD's 90th Precinct and steps from a local day care center. The child's mother was pushing the stroller when she heard gunfire and sprinted into a nearby bodega for cover. When she reached safety, she realized her infant had been struck. She rushed the baby to Woodhull Hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators captured the moment of the attack: two male suspects traveling on a moped up Humboldt Street, with the man seated at the rear drawing a firearm and discharging it as the moped approached the Moore Street intersection. Both suspects fled the scene.
By Wednesday afternoon, one person had been taken into custody, though the arrest stemmed from an unrelated domestic violence-related robbery investigation rather than a direct connection to the shooting. Tisch said investigators believe the man in custody "fits the description of our shooter based on both clothing and appearance," and detectives were working to formally link him to the killing. A second suspect remained at large.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who appeared alongside Tisch at a briefing, called the shooting "a tragedy." "A life that had barely begun was taken in an instant," Mamdani said. "There are no words that can mend the heartbreak this family is feeling." He also credited the NYPD for its swift response and ongoing investigation.
A heavy NYPD and FDNY presence overtook the intersection following the shooting. The proximity to a day care center sharpened the community's alarm; a gang dispute, police believe, spilled onto a midafternoon residential street and struck a child who had not yet reached her first birthday.
Wednesday's killing fits a recurring and devastating pattern. During the period from January through July 2020, 53 children were shot across New York City, compared to 37 during the same stretch of the prior year. The victim's name has not been publicly released. She was 7 months old.
