ABSS Board Reviews Key Items During February 10 Work Session
ABSS approved 23 policy revisions and accepted several community donations, with gifts and security upgrades slated for a consent vote that could affect school safety and student supports.

The Alamance-Burlington School System Board of Education moved forward on policy housekeeping and community partnerships at its Feb. 10 work session, approving a slate of policy revisions and recording multiple donations that will appear on an upcoming consent agenda for formal action.
Dr. Davis presented revisions drawn from the School Board Association Fall 2025 policy package and one additional staff-proposed update. The Board approved the combined set of 22 SBA updates plus the single staff proposal unanimously, signaling broad agreement on administrative and regulatory changes affecting district operations.
Board materials also listed several donations presented for information and to be included on the consent agenda. Alexander Wilson Elementary will receive $1,000 from Oliver’s Pack & Stack, LLC to construct shelters for the back field and playground in a project spearheaded by Sgt. Walter Ray of the Alamance County Sheriff’s Department. Alexander Wilson also received $1,000 from Fresh Carolina, LLC to support maintenance of the school’s Nature Trail; the donation was described as “the third installment of a five-year recurring contribution.” Williams High School reported a $1,000 gift from Reverend Dr. Russell Martin to restore the school piano. Southern Alamance High School was listed as receiving $2,575.70 from All for Lunch, Inc. to help reduce outstanding student lunch debt.
The Board highlighted a proposed naming at Southern Alamance High School: the Baseball Field pressbox would be named in honor of former assistant coach Eddie Wood. The materials stated that “Naming the pressbox in honor of Coach Wood will honor his legacy and the tremendous impact he has had on the school and community.” That naming proposal will be placed on an upcoming consent agenda along with the listed gifts.

Security measures also featured on the consent list. ABSS identified Security Camera Installation and Keyless Entry Installation as paired consent agenda items, though the work session highlights did not include vendor names, costs, or installation timelines. The Personnel Report and an item related to approval requests for student travel were referenced in the highlights but were not detailed in the posted summary.
The combination of community donations, a proposal to honor a longtime coach, and unanimous policy approvals underscores local engagement in school life while raising practical questions about resources and equity. The All for Lunch donation directly targets student food insecurity by reducing lunch debt, while recurring community gifts and a Sheriff’s Office-backed playground shelter project reflect grassroots support that supplements district budgets.
These items will be voted on as part of an upcoming consent agenda; residents who follow school governance and school-safety investments can review the full work session agenda and recording posted by ABSS and monitor the next board meeting for final votes and any additional details on personnel, travel requests, and the security installation plans.
