AFP launches PPR Level 1 coach clinic in Singapore to boost regional coaching
Asia Federation of Pickleball will run a PPR Level 1 coach workshop in Singapore on 25 January to certify instructors and raise coaching standards across the region.

The Asia Federation of Pickleball, supported by the World Pickleball Federation and event sponsors, is staging a Pickleball Professional Registry (PPR) Coach Certification Level 1 workshop in Singapore on 25 January at Singapore Expo Hall 7. The clinic runs from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will be led by PPR Coach Developer Gary Tan.
PPR Level 1 targets instructors who teach adult beginner and improver players, offering a practical syllabus that blends on-court coaching with lesson planning, safety protocols and foundational technique work. The in-person portion includes five hours of court time focused on drills and skill progression so coaches can translate theory into workable sessions for dinking, volleys and the all-important third-shot drop.
Entry requirements ask participants to be at least a 3.5-level player by self-rating under USA Pickleball guidelines or to hold an AFP-sanctioned tournament rating. The listed fee is SGD 450 and covers course materials, a PPR participation T-shirt, the online assessment and a certificate upon successful completion. Certified coaches will be listed on the AFP Academy directory, making it easier for clubs and players across Asia to find credentialed instructors.
Organisers require participants to complete pre-course videos and study guides before attending the clinic, so expect the face-to-face time to be focused on applied teaching and live feedback. Coaches are advised to bring hydration, snacks, their paddle and court shoes for the on-court sessions.

The workshop comes as pickleball continues to expand rapidly across Asian cities, with growing demand from community centres, clubs and resorts for instructors who can safely and efficiently take new players from first rallies to competitive play. Standardised training helps reduce injuries, improves retention by giving beginners clear progressions, and gives program directors confidence when hiring coaches.
Registration and full course information are available via the AFP website. Spots are likely to fill for this practical, full-day clinic that combines certification with immediate on-court learning.
The takeaway? If you plan to coach adults in Asia, completing the PPR Level 1 is a direct way to upskill, get listed for bookings and sharpen the drills you use every week. Do the pre-course work, arrive ready to move between drills and demos, and treat this as an investment in clearer lesson plans and safer, more effective sessions. Our two cents? Bring extra grip tape and a reliable water bottle — you’ll want every rally to count.
