Ajinomoto recalls 3.37 million pounds Trader Joe’s chicken fried rice for glass
Ajinomoto recalls 3,370,530 pounds of frozen chicken fried rice sold at Trader Joe's after four consumer reports of glass; affected packages were produced Sept. 8 through Nov. 17, 2025.

Ajinomoto Foods North America’s Portland, Oregon establishment has halted distribution and recalled 3,370,530 pounds of frozen, not-ready-to-eat chicken fried rice that were shipped to Trader Joe’s locations nationwide and exported to Canada, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service posted Feb. 19, 2026. The agency classified the action as a Class I recall, the highest risk category.
FSIS’s notice lists the production window for the affected products as Sept. 8, 2025 through Nov. 17, 2025 and directs consumers to check packages for the USDA establishment number P-18356 inside the mark of inspection. The recall covers items sold under the Ajinomoto brand and Trader Joe’s brand, and FSIS emphasized the public health risk by classifying the recall as Class I, meaning there is a reasonable probability the product could cause serious health consequences.
Company and agency records show the recall was triggered after Ajinomoto received consumer reports of glass found in the product. “The issue was discovered after the company notified the agency that it had received four consumer complaints about glass being found in the product,” KMPH reported using FSIS information. Ajinomoto “has ceased distribution of the affected products and is working closely with FSIS to remove them from commerce,” company wording in the recall notice states.
Packaging details reported by multiple outlets include Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken With Japanese-Style Fried Rice and Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice with stir-fried rice, vegetables, seasoned dark chicken meat and eggs. KMPH provided additional format descriptions verbatim: “1.53-kg cardboard packages containing six bags of frozen ‘Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken With Japanese-Style Fried Rice’ with dates 26 SE 09 through 26 NO 12” and “20-ounce (1 pound, 4 ounces) plastic bag packages containing frozen ‘Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice ...’ with dates 9/8/2026 through 11/17/2026.” FSIS’s authoritative production-date range remains Sept. 8, 2025 through Nov. 17, 2025; reporters and consumers should verify the exact lot codes and date markings against the retail distribution lists FSIS will post.

FSIS and news summaries repeat the consumer directive: “Do not eat it. Return it to the store or throw it away.” Regulators noted that no confirmed injuries had been reported at the time of the posting, but cautioned that “glass can cause choking, mouth injuries, or internal cuts if swallowed,” and advised anyone concerned about an injury to contact a healthcare provider. Ajinomoto consumer affairs can be reached at 855-742-5011; sources variably list the company email as “[email protected]” and as customercare@ajinomotofoods.com.
FSIS said it will conduct recall effectiveness checks to verify that retailers and customers have been notified and that items are being removed from commerce, and it will post retail distribution lists when available. Ajinomoto’s cessation of shipments from establishment P-18356 and the FSIS follow-up checks are the next steps to ensure the recalled frozen products are pulled from Trader Joe’s freezers nationwide.
