Trader Joe's Expands in McKinney with Second Store, $2.5M Renovation
Trader Joe’s is listed as “Coming Soon” at Eldorado Neighborhood Shops in west McKinney, with local reporting noting a second city store and an approximately $2.5 million renovation.

Trader Joe’s is moving forward on a second McKinney location that developer SLX Capital has listed as “Coming Soon” at Eldorado Neighborhood Shops, and late-February local reporting also flagged an approximately $2.5 million renovation tied to the chain’s renewed North Texas activity. SLX Capital’s LinkedIn post states, “Trader Joe's has officially listed our McKinney West location as ‘Coming Soon,’ and local media has confirmed the store opening.”
Multiple local items point to Eldorado Parkway for the new store. KNUE gives an exact street address of 8101 Eldorado Pkwy., McKinney, Texas 75070, and SLX Capital ties its “McKinney West” listing to Eldorado Neighborhood Shops. The planned store would join Trader Joe’s existing McKinney location near US 75 on Craig Drive; Trader Joe’s website lists 12 stores in Texas, including a Coppell location that opened in late October 2024.
SLX Capital framed the Eldorado project as a mixed-use retail development built around durable market factors. The post says, “Eldorado Neighborhood Shops was structured as a mixed-use retail development around long-term, necessity-driven fundamentals: • High-growth North Texas corridor • Dense surrounding rooftops • Regional accessibility • National-credit anchor strategy.” SLX added that “Securing and delivering a tenant of this caliber reflects disciplined site selection, patient capital, and execution across entitlement, design, and construction. We will continue deploying this strategy across select high-growth corridors in 2026.”
Separately, planning documents in nearby Wylie show a proposal for a nearly four-acre retail project at 2710 W. FM 544 that includes a grocery store and retail building, with renderings depicting a Trader Joe’s storefront; that Wylie item remains a proposal tied to a planning agenda and is not confirmed as a committed Trader Joe’s location. Local reporting has distinguished the Eldorado Parkway listing as the more advanced, marketed site while treating Wylie as planning-stage.

On the broader expansion front, KNUE relays a WFAA-cited plan that Trader Joe’s intends to open eight new stores in seven states during 2026, a context that aligns with SLX’s mention of continuing deployment in 2026. What remains unsettled for McKinney is the renovation’s scope and the timeline for opening: the roughly $2.5 million investment was reported in late February 2026 without a specified address or detailed scope, and SLX’s LinkedIn post does not include a public post date in the material reviewed.
Next steps for confirmation include corporate comment, city permit records for the Eldorado parcel at or near 8101 Eldorado Pkwy., and SLX Capital’s leasing documents; those records would clarify whether a lease is executed, the construction timetable, and any hiring projections for the new McKinney store ahead of its opening.
