Neighbor Ronnie Taylor stepped directly into a Brentwood, Tennessee road to block "Reacher" star Alan Ritchson's Kawasaki motorcycle on Sunday, shoved him to the ground, and then admitted he instigated what followed. By Monday, the Williamson County District Attorney's Office and the Brentwood Police Department had reviewed the evidence and reached the same conclusion: Ritchson acted in self-defense, and no criminal charges would be filed against anyone.

Local police concluded that the "Reacher" star acted in self-defense during an explosive fight with his neighbor, Ronnie Taylor, on Sunday in the Nashville suburb of Brentwood, Tennessee. "After reviewing available evidence, including video footage and witness statements, authorities determined that no criminal charges will be pursued. Mr. Ritchson's actions were found to be in self-defense," the Brentwood Police Department said, with Brentwood Police Captain Steven Pepin serving as the principal spokesperson in the investigation.

The dispute had roots in the prior day. Taylor told TMZ the situation unfolded over two days, beginning on Saturday when he claimed to have witnessed Ritchson speeding through the neighborhood on a motorcycle and causing a disturbance. Taylor then claimed that he spotted Ritchson on his motorcycle again on Sunday, this time joined by two individuals also on motorbikes, a pair that happened to be the actor's young sons.

What the initial viral footage did not show proved decisive. TMZ broke the story over the weekend by publishing a video that featured Ritchson in an altercation with Taylor. The footage, now known to have been edited down from a longer clip, began with Taylor on the ground in a front lawn with Ritchson hovering over him and hitting him multiple times. However, a fuller picture emerged as additional clips surfaced, including footage from Ritchson's own body cam, that showed Taylor rushing into the street to confront Ritchson and attacking him first.

Taylor's own account on TMZ Live filled in critical details. Taylor admitted on TMZ Live that he was the one who instigated the physical contact by shoving Ritchson and pushing him off his Kawasaki. Taylor also reportedly "dared Alan to hit him" while Ritchson was still on the ground, though the actor tried to leave the scene until he was shoved by Taylor again. Since Taylor initiated the physical contact, police concluded Ritchson's reaction constituted self-defense.

Investigators did briefly weigh the possibility of additional charges. "Although a potential reckless endangerment charge was considered, Mr. Ritchson declined to pursue charges. With the agreement of the District Attorney's Office, the case is now closed, and no further action will be taken," police said.

The neighbor, Ronnie Taylor, declined to comment to NBC News. Ritchson's representatives have also not issued a formal statement, though the actor was not entirely silent. Ritchson posted a Napoleon Bonaparte quote on Instagram: "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake."

Ritchson, a known motorcycle enthusiast who posed on a Ducati for a THR cover story in 2024, is back in the United States after filming back-to-back movies in Australia and New Zealand. He starred in Netflix's "War Machine," which recently debuted on the streamer, for filmmaker Patrick Hughes. "Reacher" season 4 is confirmed to be releasing in 2026, although an exact release date has not been announced. The self-defense ruling removes any legal uncertainty that might have complicated those projects, closing a chapter that began with a motorcycle complaint and ended with bodycam footage contradicting the first version of events the public saw.
