Apply by Feb. 27: Douglas County Seeks Sculptors for 2026-27 Art Encounters
Douglas County seeks sculptors for the 2026-27 Art Encounters; apply by Feb. 27 online to display work May 2026-May 2027.

Douglas County is inviting sculptors to submit works for the 2026-27 Art Encounters public art program, with applications due by Friday, Feb. 27. Selected sculptures will be displayed in high-visibility outdoor sites across Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Parker, and Roxborough from May 2026 to May 2027.
The county announced Jan. 21 that local and national artists with completed pieces or works in progress may apply online at ArtCall.org or via CAFÉ at artist.callforentry.org. Each chosen sculptor receives a $1,500 stipend. Since the program began in 2007, dozens of pieces have been purchased or donated, and the rotating exhibit draws thousands of visitors annually to retail and civic corridors.

Art Encounters was created by citizen advocates for the arts to promote public interest in art, develop community pride, and draw visitors to commercial and civic areas where pieces are displayed. The program grew out of efforts by the Douglas County Cultural Council and continues with funding from local sources and the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, with additional support from Douglas County Libraries to facilitate county participation.
Public art placement in multiple towns across the county increases everyday access to sculpture outside traditional gallery spaces. That visibility matters for community well-being: art in parks, plazas, and along promenades can foster social cohesion, beautify shared spaces, and support small businesses by encouraging foot traffic. For practicing artists, the stipend and the chance that a piece may be purchased or donated offer tangible financial and legacy benefits.
Submission requirements and program background are available on the county’s Art Encounters pages, and all materials must be uploaded through ArtCall.org or artist.callforentry.org by the Feb. 27 deadline. Selected works will be installed for public viewing beginning in May 2026 and remain through May 2027, giving residents year-long access to new outdoor sculpture.
For Douglas County residents, Art Encounters means more opportunities to encounter art during daily routines and for artists a platform that reaches a broad cross-section of the community. Sculptors ready to place work in front of thousands of viewers should prepare their digital portfolios and apply before the deadline; residents can look forward to new, accessible installations countywide next spring.
