Artist Aims to Bring Message of Change to London Through Music
Ye broke his silence on the Wireless Festival controversy, pledging to "present a show of change" in London as sponsors including Pepsi fled over his antisemitic past.

Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, broke his silence Monday on the mounting backlash surrounding his upcoming headline slot at London's Wireless Festival, declaring that his "only goal is to come to London and present a show of change, bringing unity, peace and love through my music."
The statement came as the controversy over his booking intensified, with major corporate sponsors distancing themselves from the three-night festival scheduled for Finsbury Park from July 10 to 12. Pepsi, which had co-branded the event for more than a decade, announced its withdrawal first. Diageo, owner of Johnnie Walker, Captain Morgan, and Guinness, followed with its own pullout. By Monday, Rockstar had also withdrawn its sponsorship, and PayPal confirmed it would no longer allow its branding to be used at the festival.
The departures came in the wake of sharp condemnation from UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who publicly denounced the booking. A spokesperson for London's mayor added that the artist's past comments and actions were "not reflective of London's values."
Ye has faced sustained criticism in recent years over repeated antisemitic statements. In his Monday response, he addressed that record directly, offering to meet with members of the British Jewish community in person. "I know words aren't enough," he wrote. "I'll have to show change through my actions. If you're open, I'm here."

The gesture drew skepticism in some quarters. Actor David Schwimmer publicly dismissed the statement and urged the festival's remaining sponsors to follow Pepsi and Diageo's lead.
Despite the pressure, Wireless Festival organizers have not reversed course, with the festival's leadership publicly standing by the booking. Whether the show proceeds as planned will depend largely on how the political and commercial pressure that has gathered rapidly around it develops over the coming months.
