Backup Saves and Mods Folder, Re-enable Script Mods After Sims 4 Patch
Back up Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods and your Saves before any patch; after a patch retick "Enable Custom Content and Mods" and "Script Mods Allowed" and verify mods on Scarlet’s Realm or the EA Answers thread.

Backup your Saves and Mods folder before installing any Sims 4 patch. Copy the folder at Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods to an external drive or a location not synced to OneDrive or iCloud; the community repeatedly flags this as the single most important pre-patch step, especially around high-impact releases such as the February 2026 1.121 update.
When you launch the game after an update, open Options menu > Other and check the two boxes labeled "Enable Custom Content and Mods" and "Script Mods Allowed". Helen Ashcroft noted in her guide that "Once you've copied your mods into the folder, you'll then need to adjust the in-game options." Since script mods affect more of the game's code these are turned on separately here — patches often uncheck these boxes, so retick them before normal play.
Patches do not always disable mods - the severity varies. A YouTube creator summarized it: "If you didn't know, The Sims does turn off mods when it updates. It just depends on the update itself." For a quick verification, re-enable both boxes and then "leave the game. Remember not to save, but just as a way to double check." You can also use the EA App offline option to prevent automatic updates while you test.
Verify each mod's compatibility by checking the page you downloaded it from and creator channels on Discord, Patreon, or Twitter. "The best way to ensure your mods are up to date is to check the page you got the mod from and look for either an update or confirmation that the mod is fine," the guide advises. Community trackers like Scarlet’s Realm and the longstanding EA Answers / Forums thread titled "[OLD] Broken and Updated Mods and CC: 1.113, Feb. 25, 2025 Game Update" (starter luthienrising, Hero+, Latest Activity: 1 hour ago, 16,609 Posts) aggregate creator reports and time-stamped updates.

If something breaks, isolate the offender by testing mods either one at a time or by adding all then removing mods one by one. "You can either add your mods in one at a time to test stability or add them all in then either remove one at a time or start again adding in one at a time only if you have issues," advised the guide. For easier installs and organization, consider Raxdiam's Mod Manager for drag-and-drop installs.
Use the in-game mod list to confirm what the game actually detects. Sims4 Crinrict explains there are two sections: Custom Content and Tuning mods (Custom Content) and Script Mods; package files show under Custom Content while ts4script files appear under Script Mods. If mods are missing from the in-game list, they will not load. Crinrict also warns that cloud-synced user folders can make saves and mods appear missing and suggests removing the Mods folder temporarily — if the game does not auto-create a new Mods folder on launch, the game is pointed at a different user folder.
For diagnostics, use Better Exceptions from Twist & Mexi and TwistedMexi's Better BuildBuy utilities to narrow conflicts; community members also recommend the popular mod stack including MC Command Center, Roburky’s Meaningful Stories, Bienchen’s Whim Overhaul, Wonderful/Wicked Whims, and thepancake1 chemistry system. Finally, remember the community rhythm: creators may need time to test and update mods, so "please, please, please give MA creators some grace… people have other lives.
