Bowie special mayoral candidate filing opens Feb. 17; list updated Feb. 25

Registered Bowie residents can begin filing for the City of Bowie special mayoral election at Bowie City Hall, with the City Clerk’s office publishing a running list of candidates who had filed by Feb. 25, 2026. The special election to fill the mayoral vacancy is scheduled for April 7, 2026, and the filing window runs through March 6, 2026.

"The Candidate Filing Period for the Special Mayoral Election on April 7, 2026 is February 17 to March 6, 2026," the City of Bowie filing notice states, confirming the start and end dates for submissions. Residents who are registered voters are eligible to file for office in the City Clerk’s office, the notice adds.

Candidate packets are available for pickup at the City Clerk's office at Bowie City Hall, located at 15901 Fred Robinson Way, Bowie, MD 20716. Filing is by appointment only and paperwork must be complete at the time of submission. "Candidates must bring the completed forms with them when they file for office. Candidates must call the City Clerk’s office at 301-809-3029 to make an appointment in order to file their completed candidate paperwork," the clerk’s office instructs, emphasizing that incomplete submissions will not be accepted without an appointment.

The city also reiterated the municipal fundraising rule that applies before formal candidacy is filed. "Note: No person may solicit or collect funds to be used in furtherance of the election to municipal office of any person who has not filed a Certificate of Candidacy and the Notice of Appointment of Treasurer (City Code: Sec.6-68 (d))," the filing guidance states, pointing to the city code restriction on campaign fundraising prior to formal filings.
