Bystander Injured Stopping Covey Lane Stabbing Near Vandalia Road; Two Critically Hurt
A bystander was injured intervening in a stabbing on Covey Lane near Vandalia Road; the woman who was chased and the man accused of attacking her are both in critical condition.

A woman who witnesses say fled from a vehicle was chased, caught and stabbed on Covey Lane near Vandalia Road, and a bystander who tried to stop the assault was injured, Greensboro police and witnesses told WXII. Two people, the woman who was attacked and the man accused of attacking her, were taken to a local hospital and remain in critical condition.
Greensboro officers responded at about 8:15 a.m. Monday and found two victims at the scene, officials told WXII. Witnesses told police that one of the victims fled from a vehicle; "they said a man chased her, caught her, and began stabbing her. A bystander tried to stop the assault and was also injured. The attacker was detained until officers arrived."
Police say the person detained at the scene is the man accused of attacking the woman, but his identity is being withheld while he remains hospitalized and until he is released, arrested and formally charged. WXII reported that charges are pending and that "police said the victim and suspect knew each other."
The original account and WXII reporting both say the two critically injured people are a man and a woman; WXII clarified that both were transported to a local hospital for treatment and remain hospitalized in critical condition. There is no word on a possible motive, and investigators tell WXII the inquiry is ongoing.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers. WXII also provided a domestic-violence resource: the Guilford County Family Justice Center at 336-641-7233. If anyone is in immediate danger, police urge calling 911.
Key details remain unconfirmed publicly: the victims’ names, the bystander’s current medical status, the specific hospital or hospitals involved, and any formal charges or booking information. Reporters seeking updates should contact the Greensboro Police Department public information office and Crime Stoppers for tips; WXII reporter Oliver Watlington filed the original account that provided the timeline and witness statements.
