Caltrans Warns of SR-41 Daytime Lane Closures in Fresno County March 4–6

Caltrans District 6 is conducting asphalt sealing on northbound State Route 41 in Fresno County, with daytime No. 2 lane closures scheduled March 4–6 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the agency said in a March 4 traffic advisory. Caltrans told motorists to “Motorists should plan accordingly” and warned the scheduled closures will occur “weather permitting.”

Fresno Bee reporting, citing Caltrans Facebook posts, lists the northbound segments affected each day. On Wednesday, March 4 crews closed the No. 2 lane from Rose Avenue to Floral Avenue for asphalt sealing; on Thursday, March 5 the No. 2 lane closure moved to Nebraska Avenue to Rose Avenue; and on Friday, March 6 the No. 2 lane was closed from Saginaw Avenue to Nebraska Avenue. Each day’s work was set for the 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. window and identified as asphalt sealing operations.

Separate, single-day work occurred on Tuesday, March 3. Caltrans closed the No. 2 lane of southbound Highway 41 from just south of Laguna Avenue to Excelsior Avenue starting at 8:00 a.m. for pavement repairs; that lane remained closed until about 2:15 p.m., Fresno Bee reported from the state agency’s social post. On the same day Caltrans closed the southbound Highway 99 on-ramp at Olive Avenue for landscaping operations and expected the ramp to reopen at 3:00 p.m., adding that “Alternate routes are advised.”

Caltrans’ social posts noted traffic effects and delay estimates. “Delays of up to 15 minutes are possible, Caltrans says,” the agency posted on Facebook, and the department asked drivers to slow where crews are working. Caltrans Maintenance workers reminded drivers to “drive with extra care and allow additional travel time while travelling in the maintenance area,” and the agency advised: “Please be alert for Road Maintenance Personnel and ‘Slow for the Cone Zone.’”

The district made clear closures may extend beyond the posted windows if weather or other uncontrollable events occur. “Closures may continue for longer periods of time each day, if necessary, due to delays caused by weather or uncontrollable events that may occur during maintenance,” Caltrans said, and added a final safety admonition: “For the safety of workers and other motorists, please Be Work Zone Alert.”

Caltrans distributed the schedule via its District 6 traffic advisory and social media; the agency’s Instagram post also flagged lane and ramp closures on State Route 41 and mentioned State Route 180. For motorists commuting on SR-41 between Saginaw Avenue and Floral Avenue during weekday mornings March 4–6, expect lane reductions in the No. 2 lane between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. and plan extra travel time while crews complete asphalt sealing.
