Delaware State Police say 42-year-old Ian Eisiminger of Claymont was arrested Feb. 2 after allegedly passing a note demanding cash to a clerk at the Dollar General at 2605 Philadelphia Pike and fleeing on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

“The preliminary investigation revealed Eisminger entered the store and walked around for several minutes before approaching a store clerk and handing over a note demanding money from the cash register. Store employees complied and Eisminger ran away with an undisclosed amount of cash. Troopers also located clothing items Eisiminger wore during the robbery near a bus stop close to the scene,” the police release said.

Troopers responded at approximately 7:30 p.m., were given a suspect description and located a man matching that description walking on a nearby street a short time later. Officers detained him without incident, identified him as Ian Eisiminger and took him to Troop 1 for processing. He was charged with two counts of Robbery Second Degree, arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $12,000 cash bond. The Delaware State Police Troop 4 Criminal Investigations Unit has assumed the case.

Multiple local outlets noted the arrest was resolved quickly, with clothing items believed to have been worn during the incident found near a bus stop close to the store. WDEL located the store on Philadelphia Pike near Harvey Road, a detail that helps orient local employees and residents concerned about safety in the corridor.

For Dollar General employees and other frontline retail workers, the episode underscores familiar and growing workplace risks. Robberies conducted with notes or brief interactions leave little time for staff to react, and clerks often comply to avoid escalation and harm. The incident highlights the importance of visible safety protocols such as ready access to panic alarms, clear training on how to respond during a robbery, and post-incident support including trauma counseling and time off for affected employees.

Managers and corporate safety teams may face pressure to review shift staffing, store layout and loss prevention measures after a public incident at a retail location. Store employees who witnessed the event or were directly involved may need debriefing and help navigating police interviews and any internal incident reports.

All charges in the criminal case remain allegations. “All charges remain allegations. As with all criminal cases, a suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” a community report noted.

The state police investigation is ongoing. For workers, the immediate takeaway is practical: confirm your workplace has clear robbery response procedures, know where to find emergency contact information, and expect follow-up from management and law enforcement as the case proceeds through the court system.
