College of Idaho bats overpower Eastern Oregon in 15-3, 17-3 home losses
College of Idaho erupted for 32 runs to sweep Eastern Oregon in La Grande, handing the Mountaineers 15-3 and 17-3 losses and widening questions about conflicting box scores on EOU’s site.
College of Idaho piled up 32 runs across a doubleheader in La Grande, beating Eastern Oregon 15-3 (8 innings) and 17-3 and handing the Mountaineers back-to-back conference losses on Feb. 22. The offensive outburst left the Yotes 2-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play and, by the recap’s count, 9-1 overall.
Game 1 finished early in the eighth inning at EOU’s home field after a late surge by the Yotes. “Cody Guy opened the scoring with a solo homer to right in the third,” and Darren Smith “regained control with a two-run blast to right-center in the fifth for a 3-1 lead,” the game recap noted. Eastern Oregon staged a response in the sixth when the Mountaineers “rallied with a pair in the sixth, including a balk and a solo homer,” but College of Idaho put the game away with “a decisive six-run seventh,” producing the 15-3 final.
In Game 2 the Yotes again overwhelmed the Mountaineers, the box score listing College of Idaho with an 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 5 | 0 | 1 | 10 line for 17 runs, 19 hits and one error, while Eastern Oregon finished 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 for 3 runs, 7 hits and one error. The pitching decision for that game read “W: Bruegeman, Zaylor (1-0)” and “L: R. Loftis (0-2),” and the recap summarized the sweep as the Yotes piling up 32 runs “including a pair of late-inning explosions.”
Eastern Oregon’s own game page includes detailed play-by-play items that name many of the same players and provide additional color: bottom of the third sequences show “J. Nagler hit by pitch,” a throwing error that advanced Nagler, and “L. Smith grounded out to 2b, RBI; J. Nagler scored, unearned.” Later scoring lines on that page list “6th - C. Guy singled to left field, RBI; E. Brown scored,” “7th - L. Smith homered to center field, RBI,” and “7th - M. Landeros singled to right field, RBI; T. Zander advanced to third; A. Milton scored.” Those play-by-play entries are visible alongside a scoreboard table that, in the captured view, shows an 11-5 Eastern Oregon final and a header listing “College of Idaho (8-2) -vs- Eastern Oregon (3-7).”

The two sets of official game materials contain clear contradictions: College of Idaho’s recap and box scores show a sweep, 15-3 and 17-3, with CI moving to “2-0 in CCC action and 9-1 overall,” while the snapshot of Eastern Oregon’s athletics page shows a different final and team records. The schedule context is consistent that the series was set for Feb. 21-22 at EOU’s park in La Grande; a season release had the Mountaineers opening CCC play at home versus College of Idaho on those dates.
With pitching decisions, inning-by-inning lines and named offensive bursts recorded in multiple places, the statistical picture is detailed but inconsistent across school pages. Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho were scheduled to meet again on Feb. 23 at Eastern Oregon with a 1:00 p.m. MT start listed; the Mountaineers will look to rebound at home after the doubleheader sweep recorded in the College of Idaho recap.
