Colorado confirms Broomfield measles case; exposure sites released, Douglas County urges vaccination
CDPHE confirmed an unvaccinated Broomfield child with measles and released metro exposure locations, including Broomfield High School and UCHealth Broomfield ED; monitor through mid-March.

Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, Broomfield Public Health and Boulder County Public Health confirmed a measles case in a Broomfield County child and published multiple potential exposure sites across the Denver metro area after the Feb. 27 announcement. The child was not vaccinated with MMR, had not traveled outside Colorado, and has no known link to recent exposures, officials said.
CDPHE warned that the lack of a clear infection source “suggests that unidentified measles cases may be occurring in or traveling through the area.” The agency reiterated that “Measles is a highly contagious, but preventable disease. Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself, your family, and your community.”
Public locations and dates released by CDPHE and cited by local outlets include Broomfield High School at 1 Eagle Way, Broomfield, CO 80020, where the child was present Thursday, Feb. 19 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 20 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Monday, Feb. 23 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; monitoring for that exposure was listed through March 16. King Soopers, 1150 US-287, Broomfield, CO 80020, was listed for Thursday, Feb. 19 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; sources show monitoring windows through March 12 and through March 14.
Petsmart Walnut Creek, 10460 Town Center Dr., Westminster, CO 80021, appears in source lists with two visit entries: Saturday, Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 22 from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.; monitoring end dates in different reports are listed as through March 14 and through March 15. Efrain’s Mexican Restaurant, 101 E. Cleveland St., Lafayette, CO 80026, is listed for Sunday, Feb. 22 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. with monitoring through March 15.
Medical-site exposures in Broomfield include Advanced Urgent Care at 3950 W. 144th Ave., Broomfield, CO 80023, listed for Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. with monitoring through March 17. UCHealth Broomfield Hospital Emergency Department at 11820 Destination Dr., Broomfield, CO 80021 is listed for Tuesday, Feb. 24 with time windows reported as 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in some listings and 2:45 p.m. to 6 p.m. in others; monitoring is listed through March 17. CU Medicine Family Medicine Clinic, 361 Centennial Pkwy #120, Louisville, CO 80027, is listed for Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 10:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with monitoring through March 18.

Separately, Denver-area agencies and Denver International Airport notified the public about a confirmed measles case in an out-of-state traveler who passed through DIA and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Littleton. The traveler arrived on Frontier flight 1279 from Miami at gate A83 at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, and returned on Frontier flight 1280 at gate A76 at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday; the traveler attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 6853 S. Prince St., Littleton, on Sunday, Feb. 22 between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The passenger is “fully vaccinated, so the transmission risk is lower but still possible.” Passengers potentially exposed on flights will be notified directly by their state or local public health agency, and free vaccinations were offered beginning Wednesday morning at St. Mary’s or local public health agencies.
Boulder Valley School District sent a letter to families about the Broomfield High School exposure, saying students and staff who attended on Friday, Feb. 20 and Monday, Feb. 23 may have been exposed and that anyone without an up-to-date MMR vaccine record on file must stay home until immunity is verified.
CDPHE advised anyone who may have been exposed to watch for symptoms for 21 days after exposure; symptoms begin with fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes and are followed several days later by a rash that starts on the face and spreads. Colorado reported 36 measles cases in 2025 and the nation confirmed at least 2,280 cases in 2025, numbers CPR noted reflect measles activity not seen in decades.
Officials said CDPHE will add any new exposure locations to the CDPHE exposures webpage as they are identified. Reporters flagged discrepancies in UCHealth Broomfield ED time ranges, Petsmart Walnut Creek visit dates, and varying “through” monitoring end dates for confirmation; CDPHE’s exposures webpage is the agency’s stated source for consolidated updates.
