Dawn Marie Martino, 56, of Shirley was critically injured after her 2005 Chrysler Pacifica was struck at the intersection of William Floyd Parkway and Flower Hill Drive, Suffolk County police said. The crash occurred about 8:45 a.m. Monday, and police described the incident as a two-vehicle collision that left Martino trapped inside her minivan.

Emergency crews arrived shortly before 8:50 a.m. and found Martino with her legs pinned inside the vehicle. Firefighters from the Mastic and Brookhaven fire departments, assisted by officers from the Suffolk Police Emergency Service Section, used multiple sets of HURST extrication tools to free her. Mastic and Shirley ambulance crews and a Northwell Health EMS unit also worked at the scene before transport to hospital.

Martino was taken to NYU Langone Hospital–Suffolk in Patchogue and admitted in critical condition, police said. The other driver, Luis Rodriguez‑Pineda, 55, of Shirley, was operating a southbound 2023 Jeep at the time of the collision; he sustained minor injuries and was also taken to NYU Langone Hospital–Suffolk for treatment.

Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are handling the investigation into the crash. William Floyd Parkway was closed in both directions in the aftermath while crews worked and the scene was cleared; both vehicles were impounded for a safety check as detectives continued their work. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Seventh Squad at 631‑852‑8752.

The intersection of William Floyd Parkway and Flower Hill Drive is a major junction in Shirley near the Mastic-Shirley neighborhoods; the large emergency response and temporary closure caused delays on a primary north-south artery for commuters heading toward Patchogue and the Sunrise Highway corridor. A photograph of the scene was taken Monday morning and credited to John Walthers; authorities have not released further images from the crash.

Police have not released additional details about the cause of the collision, and no charges or contributing factors such as impairment or traffic signal status have been announced. Suffolk County Police continue to seek witnesses and any dash-cam or surveillance footage from the area around 8:45 a.m. on Feb. 16 to aid their reconstruction of the sequence of events.
